Pain or Burning Sensations

Patients with these symptoms can experience Sharp, jabbing, throbbing or burning pain which may be worse at night and can result in difficulty sleeping. Pain can occur during activities that shouldn’t cause pain, such as pain in your feet when putting weight on them or when they’re under a blanket.

Balance Problems / Difficulty Walking

Peripheral Neuropathy may cause a loss of balance due to numbness or weakness in the muscles. Lack of coordination and falling can make it difficult to be independent and seriously interfere with an individual’s quality of life. If Neuropathy is untreated, walking may become unbearable leading to the use of canes, walkers or wheelchairs.

Numbness and Tingling

Gradual onset of numbness may make feet feel asleep like pins and needles, prickly like bees are stinging, and can progress to total lack of feeling in the feet. Symptoms may spread upwards to the legs, then hands and arms.

Sometimes the feeling is like wearing a tight sock or walking on a cushion. As Neuropathy symptoms progress, they can become severe to the point where patients may not be able to feel their feet well enough to walk or drive. Falls and their resultant injuries become a serious risk factor!
